CORVALLIS, Ore. - The 26th-ranked San Diego State men's golf team is tied for 12th after shooting a 305 (+17) for a two round score of 594 (+18) at the NCAA West Regional Championships Friday at the par 72, 7,060-yard Trysting Trees Golf Course in Corvallis, Ore.
The Aztecs are tied with UNLV, both shooting a 594, two strokes out of the crucial tenth place qualifying mark. No. 6 Arizona State leads the field with a 560 after shooting 11-under in the second round (277).
SDSU is led by Mountain West Conference Player of the Year Lars Johansson in 32nd place with a 148 (73-75). Junior Brian Miller also shot a 75 today with a two-round total of 149 and is in 42nd. Matt Jones of Arizona State leads the individual field with a 135 (-9).
The top-10 teams and the top two individuals from the three 27-team regionals will advance to the NCAA Championship, May 30-June 3 in Durham, N.C. SDSU has advanced to the NCAA Championship on 11 occasions, most recently in 1999.
The final 18 holes will begin at 7:30 a.m., Saturday.
