Women's Tennis Wins Another

FT. COLLINS, Colo. - The 65th-ranked San Diego State women's tennis team picked up its second Mountain West Conference victory of the weekend defeating 75th-ranked Colorado State, 6-1, Sunday at Miramont Sports Center on the CSU campus. The Aztecs are winners of won five-consecutive matches including four-straight in league play.

SDSU (11-7, 4-1) moved through doubles play with little resistance. The pair of Silvia Tornier and Lindsey Hedberg took No. 1, 8-2, Whitney Wells and Julie Chidley No. 2, 8-0, and Katey Becker and Katja Karrento No. 3, 8-2. The Aztecs are 11-2 this season when they win the doubles point.

Singles play also provided little challenge for the Aztecs who won all but one match. Hedberg, playing at the No. 1 spot for the second time this season and in as many days defeated the Rams' Morena Jovisic, 6-0, 6-1. Hedberg has won eight of her last nine singles matches. SDSU's Becker is also on a hot streak, her 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (8) win at the No. 4 spot was her sixth-consective singles victory.

SDSU closes out its regular season with a quartet of home matches over the next two weekends. The Aztecs face conference foes New Mexico and Air Force next Friday and Saturday respectively before meeting up with Tulsa on April 20 (Fri.) and Oregon on the 22nd (Sun.). The MWC tournament is April 26-28 in Ft. Collin, Colo.
