Men's Tennis Shuts Out Air Force, 7-0

U.S.A.F Academy, Colo. - San Diego State swept all nine matches Friday en route to a 7-0 victory over Air Force in Mountain West Conference men's tennis action.

The Aztecs, 10-9 overall and 4-0 in the MWC, won all three doubles matches led by Oliver Maiberger and Adam Webster winning the No. 1 match over AFA's Chris and Greg Zielinski, 8-6. Travis Hasson and Matt Bere beat Eric Pittman and Justin Mancinelli at No. 2, 8-5, while Michael Coelho and Khalid Naffa beat Kyle Rainey and Rene Ramirez, 8-6, at the No. 3 spot.

Five of the six singles matches were stretched to a third set, including the No. 1 match where Maiberger defeated Pittman 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 after Pittman led 5-2 in the first with a number of set points. Rainey won the first set handily over SDSU's Valentino Pest at No. 2 singles, but could not hold on and Pest won 1-6, 6-2, 6-3. Pest is back in action for the first time since Feb. 17 due to a shoulder injury.

Shawn Hiatt went the distance with Chris Zielinski at No. 4 singles, pulling out a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 win, while Hasson and Bere won in third set super tie-breaks against Mancinelli (No. 5) and Doug Fike (No. 6), respectively.

The Aztecs will play their final Mountain West match up of the regular season versus New Mexico, Saturday, April 7 at 2:00 p.m.
