San Diego - Air Force scored five runs over their final two innings at bat to defeat San Diego State, 6-2, in the conclusion of Friday's baseball game that was suspended due to rain. The loss dropped the Aztecs to 19-14 (8-5 MWC) while Air Force improved to 19-18 (5-8 MWC).
The game was halted Friday afternoon in the third inning with the score deadlocked at 0-0. When played resumed Saturday afternoon, the game remained scoreless until Sean Pierce's solo home run in the fifth gave the Aztecs the lead. They doubled their advantage in the sixth when Darrell Bowles doubled in Anthony Gwynn from third with two outs.
However, The Falcons answered back with a run in their half of the sixth, then added a pair of unearned runs in the seventh and three runs in the eighth to wrap up the win.
Senior right-hander John Skinner (2-1), who stared on the mound on Saturday in relief of Rory Shortell who threw the game's first two innings on Friday, suffered his first loss of the year after pitching 4.2 innings and giving up three runs (two unearned) while striking out six.
Air Force's Matt Kaercher went the distance for the Falcons, limiting SDSU to just four hits while striking out nine and walking one. No Aztec had more than one hit in the contest.
The teams were to play game of the series later Saturday afternoon.
