SAN DIEGO - The 65th-ranked San Diego State women's tennis team won its third consecutive match defeating 47th-ranked San Diego, 4-3, Thursday at USD. The Aztecs have won the last three meetings with the Toreros.
SDSU (9-7) came on strong with a sweep of the doubles point. The Aztecs gained another point with Silvia Tornier besting USD's Katarina Valkyova, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3, in No. 1 singles.
USD (9-8) quickly evened the match posting wins over SDSU's Hedberg and Wells at the No. 2 and 3 spots, respectively. Wins by Katja Karrento and Katey Becker in the next two singles positions would help the Aztecs clinch the match.
SDSU returns to action this weekend when it travels to Ft. Collins, Colo., for Mountain West Conference matches against Wyoming on Saturday at 3 p.m. and Colorado State Sunday at 9 a.m.
