FT. COLLINS, Colo. - The 46th-ranked and second-seeded San Diego State women's tennis team posted its ninth-consecutive win Thursday defeating No. 7 Air Force, 4-0, in the opening round of play in the 2001 Mountain West Conference championship. The tournament is being held on the Colorado State campus at the CSU Tennis Complex.
The Aztecs (16-7) took the doubles point with the pairs of Silvia Tornier and Lindsey Hedberg, and Katey Becker and Katja Karrento winning at No. 1 and 3, respectively.
Hedberg also posted a, 6-1, 6-1, win at No. 1 singles giving SDSU an early, 2-0, advantage. Karrento went on to win at the No. 4 singles spot, 6-1, 6-0, and a, 6-2, 6-0, victory by freshman Erin Polowski at No. 6 gave the Aztecs a four point advantage and the match.
SDSU will face No. 6 Colorado State, who upset No. 3 UNLV, 4-2, in today's opening round, at 2 p.m. Friday.
