PROVO, Utah - San Diego State sophomore golfer Lars Johansson led the Aztecs to their fourth title of the season by winning the Cougar Classic, hosted by Brigham Young at the Riverside Country Club in Provo, Utah, Saturday afternoon.
The Aztecs finished first of 16 teams with a score of 848 (282-284-282). They were 17 strokes ahead of UC Santa Barbara (865) . Mountain West Conference rival Brigham Young came in fourth with an 869.
"Winning this tournament in BYU's backyard made it the sweetest win of the year," said head coach Dale Walker.
All six San Diego State competitors finished in the top 20. Sophomore Lars Johansson scored a 209 (72-69-68), seven-under-par, to win back-to-back titles after winning the Western Intercollegiate in Santa Cruz, April 3. Aztec John Lepak came in right behind Johansson shooting a 211. Chris Galeski and Brian Miller turned in the next best SDSU finishes, tying for 14th with a 216.
The Aztecs are next in action at the Mountain West Conference Tournament, April 30 - May 2, in Sun River, Ore.
