LONG BEACH, Calif. - The No. 7 San Diego State women's water polo team (18-13) won two of its three matches Saturday in the final day of the Long Beach State Invitational, The Aztecs defeated UC Santa Cruz, 9-1, and Cal State Bakersfield, 17-6.
The Aztecs lost thier first match to No. 3 USC 6-12. Sophomore Amber Prestegard led the Aztecs scoring four goals. Aztec goalies Heather Stiles and Ashley Zabel each recorded five saves.
SDSU nearly shut out UC Santa Cruz, 9-1, in its second game. The Aztecs were paced by Prestegard, Lisa Swain and Kelly Falcone each scoring two goals. Zabel carded five save while Stiles had four.
San Diego State won it final game defeating Cal State Bakersfield, 17-6. Freshman Holly Hartzell led the Aztecs with 5 goals. Stiles recorded eight saves and Zabel had seven.
The Aztecs continue their season Sunday April 22 at 6:30 p.m. against Hawaii.
