ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The San Diego State softball team split a doubleheader with Mountain West Conference opponent New Mexico Friday, winning game one, 5-4 in 11 innings, and losing the second, 9-0.
In game one UNM (31-16-1, 4-3-1 MWC) got on the board first scoring three runs on three hits in the bottom of the first inning. SDSU (27-17, 3-3 MWC) answered with four runs in the top of the third until a homer to left by the Lobos' Kathy Moore tied things at 4-all. The teams would stay even for the next seven innings before SDSU was able to get Kelcy Murphy on, advance her to third and score the eventual winning run off a single down the left field line. UNM would go down in order in the bottom of the 11th and SDSU would pick up the win, 5-4.
SDSU's Sandra Durazo pitched all 11 innings earning the win.
UNM jumped out to an early lead in game two scoring three runs in the second and two more an inning later. The game was halted after four Lobos crossed the plate in the bottom of the fifth. SDSU's Tiffany Goudy picked up the loss on two and two-thirds innings.
The Aztecs travel to Ft. Collins, Colo., for a doubleheader with Colorado State Sunday at noon.
