Women's Tennis Gets Two In A Row

April 1, 2001

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The 66th-ranked San Diego State women's tennis team won its second Mountain West Conference match in as many days defeating 60th-ranked UNLV, 4-3, Sunday at UNLV's Fertitta Tennis Complex. The Aztecs have now won three of their last four matches.

SDSU (8-7, 2-1 MWC) again jumped out to an early lead taking the doubles point, 2-1. The Aztecs scored wins at the No. 1 and 2 positions. Lindsey Hedberg and Silvia Tornier won, 8-6, at No. 1 and Whitney Wells and Julie Chidley, 8-3, at No. 2.

UNLV (5-10, 1-2 MWC) stopped the Aztecs' momentum with wins at No. 1 and 2 singles, however, SDSU easily won all three matches in the middle of the lineup to split singles and earn the overall victory.

The Aztecs return to the court April 5 (Thurs.) with an away match at in-city rival USD. The match, which was postponed due to rain on Mar. 6, starts at 1:30 p.m.
