Wyoming Downs San Diego State

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Josh Davis had 20 points and 14 rebounds to lead Wyoming to a 73-58 victory over San Diego State on Thursday in the first round of the Mountain West Conference tournament.

Uche Nsonwu-Amadi added 15 points for the Cowboys (20-8) and Marcus Bailey scored 12.

Randy Holcomb led San Diego State (14-14) with 24 points. Al Faux added 13 points and David Abramowitz added nine.

The Aztecs trailed only 36-33 at the half, but Wyoming opened the second half with a 17-5 run to build a 53-38 advantage. All but one of the 17 points came on either lay-ups or dunks.

San Diego State cut the lead to 62-53, behind two 3-point baskets by Abramowitz and another by Holcomb. But Wyoming scored the next 10 points to go up by 19. Bailey, who was held to three points in the first half, sparked the rally with two baskets.

Wyoming will next play BYU in the semifinals. The Cougars beat Air Force, 69-54, earlier in the day.
