LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The San Diego State women's tennis team captured its first conference win with a 7-0 victory over Utah Saturday at UNLV's Fertitta Tennis Complex. The Aztecs (7-7, 1-1 MWC) have won three of their last five and two of their last three matches.
SDSU jumped out to an early lead taking the doubles point, 3-0. The only excitment came at the No. 2 position with the SDSU pair of Whitney Wells and Julie Chidley defeating Utah's Irini Kotoglou and Brooke Wilkinson, 9-8 (7).
Momentum carried into singles play where the Aztecs would not lose a match. Play started with SDSU's Silvia Tornier defeating Kotoglou, 6-0, 6-1, at the No. 1 spot. Aztec Lindsey Hedberg's, 6-4, 6-3, win over Linn Ronnberg at the No. 3 position helped her secure her fifth-consecutive singles win and the fourth straight at No. 3.
SDSU returns to action tomorrow at 10 a.m. with its third conference match in as many days against UNLV.
