SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's tennis team (7-9, 1-0) defeated No. 73 Brigham Young, 5-2, Friday afternoon at the SDSU Tennis Courts in its first conference match-up of the season.
SDSU got the early momentum by winning all three doubles matches to get the doubles point. The Aztecs also swept the doubles in yesterday's 4-3 loss to Middle Tennessee. Oliver Maiberger and Adam Webster of San Diego State defeated the 23rd-ranked doubles team in the nation of Carlos Lozano and Gert Vilms from BYU, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles. Maiberger and Webster are 6-0 in dual matches.
The Aztecs won four of the singles matches to claim the victory. Maiberger defeated Lozano, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2, at No. 1 singles. Aztec Travis Hasson defeated Michael Geysens of BYU, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. Matt Bere of SDSU defeated Anton Rudjuk of BYU, 6-3, 6-2, at the No. 5 position and Michael Coehlo of SDSU defeated Jeff Harbach of BYU, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 6 singles.
The Aztecs are back in action against Utah, Saturday, March 31 at 1:00 p.m. at the SDSU Tennis Courts.
