SAN DIEGO - The 54th-ranked San Diego State women's tennis team moved to 5-6 on the year after losing, 3-4, to 21st-ranked Washington Wednesday at the SDSU Tennis Courts.
The Aztecs started strong taking the doubles point with the No. 2 pair of Whitney Wells and Julie Chidley winning, 8-4, and Katja Karrento and Erin Polowski winning at the No. 3 spot, 8-6.
SDSU's momentum slowed in singles with Silvia Tornier losing in the No. 1 spot to Washington's Kristina Kraszewski, 6-3, 6-3. The Aztecs regained the lead with Wells and Lindsey Hedberg posting wins at the No. 2 and 3 spots, respectively. Wells defeated 22nd-ranked Claire Carter, 6-2, 6-4, and Hedberg earned a win over Ilona Kordonskaya, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4. The Aztecs lost the remaining three singles matches.
SDSU returns to action Friday when it faces Princeton at 2 p.m. on the SDSU Courts.
