Five-Run Sixth Inning Leads San Diego State Softball to 5-1 Win over Furman

SAN DIEGO - Designated hitter Tiffany Goudy doubled home a run and later scored as the Aztecs scored five times in the sixth inning to break open a scoreless game and claim a 5-1 softball victory over Furman in day one of the Aztec Invitational.

The Aztecs had only three hits in the frame, but took advantage of an error, a hit-batsman, a wild pitch and a double steal to push across five runs in the frame. Goudy's double scored Kellie Nordhagen from second base with the first run of the game. Sarah Hershman, who had singled, scored on a wild pitch to give the Aztecs a 2-0 lead.

Tashie Aguinaga singled to center field scoring Goudy giving San Diego State a three-run cushion. The Aztecs added two unearned runs in the frame to build a 5-0 lead.

Korin Gregory evened her record at 2-2 on the season with a complete game, five-hitter. The lone run Gregory surrendered came in the top of the seventh inning with a 5-0 lead. Kay Britain led off the frame with a triple and scored on a ground out to get Furman on the board.

San Diego State is 9-8 on the season while Furman is now 1-10. The Aztec Invitational continues tomorrow beginning at 9 a.m.
