SAN DIEGO - The 27th-ranked San Diego State women's tennis team dropped its second straight match losing to sixth-ranked California, 6-1, Friday afternoon at the SDSU Tennis Courts.
The highlight of Aztec competition came in the No. 5 singles spot when junior Julie Chidley defeated Cal's Nicole Havlicek, 6-4, 6-1. SDSU provided good competition in both the No. 3 and No. 6 singles slots, with senior Whitney Wells losing to Jieun Jacobs, 7-6 (6), 6-4, at No. 3 and freshman Erin Polowski losing to Sekita Grant, 7-6 (4), 6-4, at the No. 6 spot.
SDSU (2-2) was forced to play without the help of sophomore Katja Karrento who sat out do to a virus. Karrento has played in the No. 2 singles spot and usually teams with Wells at No. 2 doubles.
The Aztecs next compete against Loyola Marymount Feb. 16 (Fri.) in San Diego. All home matches are held on the SDSU Tennis Courts located east of Cox Arena on campus.
