No. 16 San Diego State Upsets No. 9 Michigan

SAN DIEGO - The No. 16 San Diego State water polo team defeated No. 9 Michigan, 13-5, Wednesday afternoon at the Aztecs' home opener at Bud Kearns Pool in Balboa Park.

Freshman Holly Hartzell showed no sign of jitters in her first home game for the Aztecs, matching her season high in goals with five. Sophomore Amber Prestegard added three goals along with single goals from Heidi Matsumoto, Kelly Falcone, Whitney Winlow, Nicole Moarasky and Jackie Lopez.

SDSU's defense kept the Wolverines to only five goals, two being penalty shots. Junior Heather Stiles had five saves in the goal for the Aztecs. SDSU goalies Ashley Zabel and Belen Monterubbio each added two saves.

The Aztecs are next in action at No. 8 UC Santa Barbara, Sunday, March 4, at noon.
