SAN DIEGO - San Diego State sophomore tennis player Lindsey Hedberg has been selected as the Mountain West Conference's women's tennis player of the week, the league office announced Thursday.
Lindsey Hedberg's performance this past weekend keyed back-to-back wins for the Aztecs who defeated Loyola Marymount, 6-1, Friday and 58th-ranked UC Irvine, by the same score, Saturday. In Friday's competition, Hedberg downed the Lion's Angelina Zdorovytska, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3, in No. 2 singles. On Saturday, in Irvine, she helped the Aztecs rebound after a loss in the No. 1 singles spot beating Darian Chappell, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2, at the No. 2 position. Hedberg teamed up with sophomore Silvia Tornier to defeat LMU's Chappell and Jonni Seymour, 9-7, at the No.1 doubles slot. Hedberg owns a 2-2 record in singles play this season after posting a 4-3 mark in the fall. Hedberg is the first Aztec to receive the weekly honor this season.
SDSU is back in action Saturday at noon when they take on tenth-ranked Pepperdine on the SDSU Tennis Courts.
