POWAY, Calif. - Catcher Brooke Johnson belted her first career home run, a three-run shot in the fourth inning, as San Diego State rolled to a 6-2 win over Ohio State Saturday as play continued in the Campbell/Cartier Classic in Poway. The tournament is hosted by San Diego State.
Johnson, a junior from San Diego's Serra High School, connected for the first round-tripper of the season for the Aztecs and broke open a 1-1 tie.
The Aztecs tacked on two insurance runs in the fifth and then coasted to the win behind pitcher Sandra Durazo, who improved to 3-1 on the season with her only loss coming at the hands of No. 9 Fresno State.
San Diego State improved to 5-3 with the win and Ohio State fell to 6-4 with the loss.
The Campbell/Cartier Classic will include with a full day of play on Sunday.
Durazo, the reigning Mountain West Conference pitcher of the week, worked three innings in relief to pick up the victory.
