Box Score

SAN DIEGO - A seven-run fourth inning coupled with a five-run eighth pushed the San Diego State baseball team to a 16-5 win over UC Riverside in the final game of the San Diego Classic on Sunday at Tony Gwynn Stadium.

Aztec starter Rory Shortell picked up his first win since undergoing surgery on his right elbow in the off season. The Portland, Ore., product threw five innings and allowed two runs on only three hits.

SDSU (5-5 overall) was led offensively by shortstop Taber Lee and center fielder Anthony Gwynn. Lee went 3-for-5 with five runs batted in, while Gwynn banged out three hits in six at-bats. Both players recorded a stolen base. On the year, Lee and Gwynn have combined to be successful on 13 stolen bases in 13 attempts.

Sunday's win marked the first time that the Aztecs have scored more than nine runs in a game this season, and it also avenged a 4-3 loss to UC Riverside on opening night.

SDSU returns to action at 6 p.m. on Friday when it hosts Gonzaga at Tony Gwynn Stadium in the first game of a three-game series.
