OKLAHOMA CITY - The San Diego State women's swimming team moved up two spots into sixth place and set two school records Friday at the Mountain West Conference Championships held at Oklahoma City Community College. After the third day of competition the Aztecs have scored 241 points.
SDSU's jump came courtesy of strong finishes in the 100 backstroke and 800 freestyle relay events. Meghan Casillan earned a silver in the 100 back, finishing at 56.67 and teammate Aletta Haff a bronze at 56.86. Casillan's time is a school record, besting the time of 56.77 she set at last year's conference meet. The Aztec relay team of Hannah Ryan, Erin Smith, Megan Storey and Erin Kilpatrick finished in second place, ahead of BYU, in the 800 freestyle relay clocking in with a school record 7:37.64. SDSU has set four school records at this year's conference meet with three of those coming in relay events. The record in the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay were set on Thursday.
Brigham Young holds its spot in first place with 555.50 points. The Aztecs are a spot behind Wyoming (291) and one space ahead of Air Force (222).
The final day of competition begins tomorrow at 11 a.m. with the 200-backstroke preliminaries. Finals begin at 6 p.m. Full meet results can be found at the official website of the Mountain West Conference, www.mountainwestconf.com.
