San Diego State Loses To New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Ruben Douglas scored 22 points and led an early second half scoring run by New Mexico in the Lobos' 72-54 win Saturday over San Diego State.

New Mexico (15-8,4-5 Mountain West) broke it open in the first seven minutes of the second half with a 12-0 run during which Douglas scored eight points, including back-to-back 3-pointers.

San Diego State (11-12, 1-9) was within 31-27 at halftime, but the Aztecs hit just 2 of their first 16 shots in the second half.

San Diego State shot 32 percent for the game, the second worst shooting effort by a New Mexico opponent this season.

Randy Holcomb scored 17 points and had 11 rebounds to lead San Diego State, which lost its sixth straight and was beaten by the Lobos for the 18th time in the last 19 meetings.

New Mexico led 35-31 with 16:00 left when Eric Chatfield started the Lobos' second half run with a 3-pointer. Douglas' two 3-pointers came over the a 48-second span, Isaiah Johnson hit a free throw and Douglas finished off the run with a baseline 16-footer.

Douglas extended his recent solid shooting by hitting 8 of 13 shots and was 5-for-8 on 3-pointers. Douglas hit 10 of 14 3-pointers in New Mexico's wins this week over Georgia State and the Aztecs.

The Lobos led through most of the first half despite going without a field goal for more than eight minutes.
