POWAY, Calif. - The Northwestern Wildcats pushed across a tie-breaking run in the sixth inning and then held off San Diego State for a 2-1 victory Saturday night in Poway. The game was part of the Campbell/Cartier Classic, which concludes Sunday.
After falling behind 1-0, SDSU tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning when Vanessa Villegas scored from third base on an error by the Northwestern shortstop.
The Aztecs outhit the Wildcats, 6-5, and did not commit an error in the field, compared to two by the Wildcats.
The loss dropped the Aztecs to 5-4 on the season.
