Aztecs Push Ninth-Ranked Bulldogs

POWAY - The San Diego State Aztecs women's softball team went toe-to-toe with No. 9 Fresno State Friday night, before falling by a 2-0 count at the Poway Sportsplex USA in the first day of play at the Campbell/Cartier Classic.

The Bulldogs scored a two-out run in the third inning on a wild pitch by SDSU's Sandra Durazo. A two-out hit in the sixth gave Fresno State its insurance run.

The Aztecs were limited to just one hit by FSU's duo of Leslie Pool and Jamie Southern. Aztec center fielder Kellie Nordhagen beat out an infield hit in the fourth inning. San Diego State stranded four base runners in the contest.

The Aztecs were to play Cal State Sacramento in the late game Friday night.

The tournament continues through Sunday in Poway.

SDSU fell to 4-2 with the loss while the Bulldogs improved to 2-0.
