Women's Swimming Sets Two Records At MWC Meet

OKLAHOMA CITY - The San Diego State women's swimming team started its competition at the Mountain West Conference swimming and diving championships setting school records in the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay. The event is being held at Oklahoma City Community College.

The Aztecs 200 free relay team of Tara Johnson, Hannah Ryan, Aletta Haff and Heather DeFelice clocked in at 1:37.23, good for a sixth-place finish. The previous school best in the event was 1:37.40 which was set during the 1979-80 season. SDSU's fifth-place (1:46.47) finish in the 200 medley relay was set by Meghan Casillan, DeFelice, Johnson and Ryan. The previous best in that event was set during the 1998-99 season.

The Aztecs are in seventh place with 54 points one spot behind UNLV (64) and a place ahead of New Mexico (52). Defending league champion Brigham Young is in first with 124 points. Colorado State (104) and Utah (79) round out the top three.

Competition resumes today (Thurs.) at 11 a.m. with the prelims for the 500-yard free relay. Finals begin at 6 p.m. The championships can be tracked on the official website of the Mountain West Conference, www.mountainwestconf.com.
