LAKESIDE, Calif. - The Michigan and Brigham Young women's golf teams share the lead after the first round of play at the Lady Aztec Invitational, hosted by San Diego State University at the Barona Creek Golf Course in Lakeside. The tournament will conclude with 18 holes of play on Tuesday.
Both squads shot a 311, 23 strokes over par in cold and windy conditions. Kent State, CSU Northridge and Illinois round out the top five.
The host Aztecs are 12 shots over par (323) and in sixth place.
Carrie Summerhays of BYU is the individual leader with a one-under 71. She is three shots ahead of Michigan's Cortney Reno and Alison Hiller of Southern Illinois. Summerhays was the only player to break par.
San Diego State's top individual was Heather Rollo, who shot a five-over 77.
