San Diego, Calif.- The No. 35 San Diego State men's tennis team (2-1) defeated UC Riverside, 6-1, today at the SDSU Tennis Courts.
Sophomore Oliver Maiberger advanced to a 3-0 record after defeating Riverside's Derek Betyar, 6-2, 6-1. Maiberger remains undefeated in regular season dual matches since he arrived to the Montezuma Mesa last January. Juniors Travis Hasson and Khalid Naffa are also undefeated this season.
SDSU's only loss was due to being short a player. The Aztecs were missing sophomore Valentino Pest who is competing at the ITA Rolex National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in Dallas. Pest will play his first round match against Shuon Madden of Texas A&M, Thursday at 11:30 a.m.
The Aztecs next compete Saturday, Feb. 3 against No. 21 Washington and Sunday, Feb. 4 against No. 40 Tulsa. Both matches will be played in Tulsa.
