SAN DIEGO (AP) - Myron Epps scored 20 points and Randy Holcomb added 18 points and 11 rebounds Thursday night to lead San Diego State to a 78-64 victory over Morgan State.
The Aztecs (6-3), trailing 15-11 midway through the first half, went on a 16-6 run over the next 6:20 to take a 27-21 lead and were in front the rest of the way.
Holcomb and Epps did the most damage during the key first-half run, combing for 14 via dunks and layups.
The Grizzly Bears (2-4) were led by Curtis King with 23 points, and Cedric Barrow with 10.
San Diego State's record through nine games is its best since the 1996-97 season.
After leading 35-24 at halftime, the Aztecs built a 51-29 lead with 12:49 to play.
Morgan State mounted a brief comeback, outscoring the Aztecs 13-5 over the next four minutes. However, San Diego State's Carlo Kovacic, who scored all 15 of his points on 3-pointers, ended the Grizzly Bears' rally by making a 3-pointer to build the lead to 59-42 with 7:41 to play.
