SAN DIEGO (AP) - Randy Holcomb scored 25 points and keyed a decisive second-half run, leading San Diego State to a 90-57 victory over Florida Atlantic on Thursday night.
San Diego State (3-1) trailed most of the first half before taking a 37-33 halftime lead. But a 20-4 run in the first 10 minutes of the second half turned the game into a rout.
Holcomb was at the center of the rally as he scored 10 points, including a spectacular dunk off an alley-oop pass from Deandre Moore that energized both the Aztecs and the crowd.
Myron Epps, who scored 11 points, added six in the run, including his own dunk off a Moore lob pass.
Holcomb, who shot just 3-for-14 from the field in the first half, hit 6 of 10 shots in the second half, most from inside.
In the first half, Florida Atlantic (1-5) looked nothing like the team that lost 100-42 at Florida on Monday. The Owls led most of the first half, using patient offensive sets and hitting the boards.
But Florida Atlantic fell apart in the second half, hitting just 19.4 percent of its field-goal attempts (6-for-31).
Raheim Brown came off the bench to lead the Owls with 16 points and eight rebounds. Jeff Hamilton and Jeff Cowans added 13 points each.
The Aztecs, who shot 60 percent in the second half, held a decisive edge in rebounding, 49-36, and at the free throw line, where they hit 26 of 39 compared to 15 of 19 for Florida Atlantic.
