LAS VEGAS - The San Diego State women's soccer team lost to Utah, 2-1 in the semifinal round of the Mountain West Conference tournament on Friday in Las Vegas.
The Aztecs (8-13 overall) dominated much of the action, but were unable to cash in on a couple of key chances. The Utes (13-6-1 overall) got on the board first at the 61:52 mark, when defender Jen Williams scored on a controversial goal. Following a corner kick by forward Shauna Gurr, Williams took a shot that bounced straight down of the cross bar. The linesman ruled that the ball crossed the goal line and awarded Utah with the score.
The Utes came right back just six minutes later and scored again when midfielder Katie Tate beat SDSU keeper Linnea Quinones to the lower left side of the net. Down 2-0, the Aztecs roared back when forward Kim Rogers headed in a ball that was rattling around the six yard box following a corner taken by defender Fay deLeon at the 70:58 mark.
The game was played at a frantic pace for the remainder of the contest, with SDSU dominating the action. However, the Utes were able to hold on to pick up the win and end the Aztecs' season despite the fact that SDSU outshot Utah, 22-13.
