Box Score

SAN DIEGO - For three straight years, San Diego State has reached the Pacific Bell Classic championship game. And after Saturday's 74-59 loss to Chattanooga, the Aztecs are still looking for their first classic title.

Sophomore Jamey Cox poured in 21 points and San Diego State (1-3) got a career afternoon from junior Tanisha Knight, who finished with 16 points and three rebounds, but the Lady Mocs' high-powered offense proved to be too much for the Aztecs. Tournament MVP Jennifer Wilson scored a game-high in 24 points and Damita Bullock added 16 as Chattanooga improved to 3-1 with its two Pacific Bell Classic wins.

The Aztecs actually lead 15-13 at the just over six minutes into the contest. However, SDSU was unable to buy a basket over the next 7:25 as the Lady Mocs went on a 13-0 run to take control of the game. Chattanooga's lead reached as many as 16 in the first period before taking a 39-24 lead into the locker room at the break.

Things didn't get too much better for the Aztecs after intermission. SDSU, which was outrebound 44-23, twice whittled UTC's lead to 10 points in the second half but could draw not closer as the Lady Mocs continued to pound the offensive glass. Chattanooga took advantage of 15 second-chance opportunities, converting 10, and led by as many as 20 points.

SDSU freshman Nicolette McCartny led the Aztecs on the boards with six rebounds. Senior Shannon Lee dished out another six assists and now has 268 for her career -- the ninth-best total in Aztec history.

San Diego State returns to action on Tuesday when the Aztecs travel to Portland State. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
