Volleyball Ends Season With 3-1 Loss At USD

San Diego - Diego State concluded its 2000 volleyball season Tuesday night, dropping a four-game match at University of San Diego by game scores of 7-15, 15-10, 6-15, 6-15). Even with the loss, the Aztecs finished with an overall record of 18-14 as they posted their first winning campaign since 1997. The match was also the season finale for the Toreros who ended with a 14-14 mark.

Seniuor Monet Solberg and freshman Aspen McPartland led San Diego State with 12 kills apiece. Amy Hallquist (15), Melissa Wright (11) and Solberg (10) ended up in double figures in digs for the Aztecs.

Aztec senior Erin Grady finished the match with one solo and five block assists, setting an Aztec single-season mark in the process. She concluded the season with 167 block assists to break the record of 164 in a season set by Kris Morton in 1985. Grady's four-year total of 315 block assists ranks eighth on the SDSU career list.

USD's Noel Frohman led all players with 21 kills on the night while teammate Adrian Frediani contributed 16 as the Toreros hit .281 for the match compared to SDSU's .150.

San Diego State loses three senior starters fro this year's squad: middle blocker Grady along with outside hitters Hallquist and Solberg. Coach Mark Warner has already begun building his next squad with the recent signing of Katherine Moriarity, an all-state hitter from Idaho Falls, Idaho.
