SAN DIEGO (AP) - Randy Holcomb and Karlo Kovacic scored 14 points apiece to lead San Diego State to a 77-62 victory over New Mexico State on Tuesday.
Holcomb, who played just five minutes in the first half because of foul trouble, scored all of his points in the second half as the Aztecs (2-0) pulled away.
Kovacic hit a key three-pointer at the 3:59 mark after the Aggies had cut the lead to 63-58.
San Diego State won its first two games of the season for the first time since the 1995-96 season.
Dennis Trammell led New Mexico State (1-2) with 16 points and Eric Channing added 15.
Myron Epps also scored 14 points for San Diego State, which shot 48 percent from the field and held New Mexico to 40 percent shooting.
The Aztecs, who led 40-31 at halftime, began to pull away as Kovacic and Holcomb hit consecutive three-pointers to take a 50-37 lead with 14:15 left.
The Aggies used a 12-2 run to cut a 15-point deficit to a 63-58 San Diego State lead with 4:35 remaining.
But the Aztecs answered with Kovacic's three-pointer and two free throws by David Abramowitz to increase their lead to 68-58.
