SAN DIEGO - San Diego State's stay at the 2000 McLeodUSA Mountain West Volleyball Championship ended with a three-game loss to host Colorado State Friday night in Fort Collins. CSU bested the Aztecs by game scores of 15-12, 15-12, 15-5.

The win was the 44th consecutive home victory in Moby Arena for the 4th-ranked Rams who improved to 29-2 on the season. SDSU, whose semifinal appearance was its best showing at a conference tournament since the 1997 campaign, fell to 18-13 on the season

Only two players, one on each side, finished the match in double figures in kills. SDSU senior Monet Solberg had 11 while Colorado State's Kris Swartzendruber collected a dozen. Aztec senior Amy Hallquist and freshman Aspen McPartland also had 11 and 10 digs respectively.

San Diego State was tough in the first two games of the match, taking leads in each only to see CSU storm back and win both hard-fought contests.

"We kind of lost momentum in game two," said SDSU setter Melissa Wright. "It's hard when you build a lead and they come back. I think we're a better team than we were at the beginning of the season. We showed that we can compete with the best in the conference."

With their conference season now completed, the Aztecs will conclude their 2000 season with a match at University of San Diego on Tuesday, Nov. 21. Action is scheduled to get underway at the Jenny Craig Pavilion on the USD campus at 7:00 p.m.
