Women's Volleyball Wins In Las Vegas

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State made it three straight wins in conference play with a 3-0 victory over UNLV in a match played in Las Vegas Saturday evening. The Aztecs won close games in the first two contests (15-13, 16-14) before closing out the match with a decisive 15-2 score line.

The loss evened SDSU's season record at 9-9 and improved its Mountain West Conference mark to 3-2. The Rebels fell to 1-13 on the year and 1-4 in league play.

San Diego State was led by the hitting of senior Amy Hallqusit who turned in a hitting percentage of .484 with team-highs of 17 kills and 14 digs. Over the past three matches, the outside hitter from Corona has compiled an impressive .559 hitting percentage.

Three other Aztecs hit double figures in kills including senior Monet Solberg (13), freshman Aspen McPartland (11) and sophomore Nicole Akporiaye (10).

Setter Melissa Wright also had an fine outing for San Diego State, dealing 49 assists and contributing six block assists. She also had three kills without an error for a .429 hitting percentage.

As a team, SDSU hit .266 to UNLV's .126, with Amber Graham leading UNLV with 18 kills and a .333 hitting percentage.

The Aztecs continues their conference road travels next weekend when they visit Wyoming (Oct. 13th) and fourth-ranked Colorado State (Oct. 14th). SDSU returns home to Peterson Gym on Oct. 16th to face William and Mary at 5:00 p.m.
