Women's Volleyball Defeats Air Force In Three Games

San Diego - San Diego State captured its eighth win in its last 10 matches Friday evening, defeating Air Force 15-3, 15-9, 15-9, in Colorado Springs. The win kept the Aztecs (14-11, 6-4 MWC) in fourth place, a half-game ahead of New Mexico, a team they are scheduled to face Saturday night. The Falcons fall to 6-15 overall and 0-9 in conference.

SDSU took advantage of its height. early to win the first game convincingly. As a team, the Aztecs finished with nine blocks and a .542 hitting percentage. Air Force came out stronger in games two and three, but they couldn't overcome San Diego State's offensive attack as the Aztecs hit .333 for the match.

The Aztecs were led by Nicole Akporiaye who totaled 13 kills and was the only SDSU player to reach double figures in that category. Senior Monet Solberg contributed six kills and hit .455 over the three game match while Katie Magnuson led the team with 14 digs. Erin Grady, who ranks second in the nation in blocks this week, had five on the night.

Air Force's Ana-Marie Ortega had 12 kills while teammate Delavane Diaz had 10, but the Falcons hit just .104 as a team on the night.

San Diego State next travels to Albuquerque where they will meet New Mexico on Saturday, Oct. 28, at 7:00 p.m. in Albuquerque to conclude the road portion of their 2000 conference schedule.
