San Diego - Jill Pearson's second goal of the game broke a 2-2 deadlock and propelled the Fresno State women's soccer team to a 4-2 win over San Diego State in a game played in Fresno Friday afternoon. Pearson's effort thwarted an SDSU comeback that saw the Aztecs come from a goal down at the half to tie the game early in the second period.

San Diego State (7-12, 4-2 Mountain West Conference) got on the board first when midfielder Jane Specht powered a header from Fay deLeon's corner kick past Bulldog goalie Mary-Tyler Wahl in the 20th minute.

However, two quick scores in just over a two-minute span gave Fresno State (10-8, 3-4 Western athletic Conference) a 2-1 lead at the half. Aimee Thompson notched the Bulldog's first goal with a diving header off a pass from Reyna Green at 36:56. That was followed by Pearson's first goal as she converted a breakaway opportunity at 39:04.

The Aztecs came back to tie the contest in the 53rd minute on a goal that started with another deLeon corner. The ball went to defender Hannah Garl who head it to midfielder Elicia Petre. Petre then hit a first-time volley into the middle that freshman Nikki Torruella head in to tie the score.

Pearson's game-winning effort came in the 69th minute when she was put through by Green and beat SDSU goalkeeper Erin Haentjens. Fresno State iced the game in the 77th minute when Green score with an assist from Erin Sayegusa.

Haentjens, making her second start of the season, had a busy afternoon in the net for the Aztecs, facing 24 shots and making 10 saves. Fresno's Wahl faced eight shots and made a pair of saves.

San Diego State will next travel to Las Vegas for the annual Mountain West Conference Tournament where they are the third seed. Action begins for the Aztecs on Wednesday when they face number-six seed New Mexico at 2:00 p.m. at Peter John Field on the UNLV campus.
