Volleyball Comes Back To Defeat Wyoming 3-2

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State came back after being down two games to one to defeat the Wyoming Cowgirls, 3- 2 (9-15, 15-7, 6-16, 15-12, 15-8), in Mountain West Conference action in Laraime Friday evening. It was San Diego State's first five-game match of the season and improved its overall record to 10-9 overall. The win helped strenthen the Aztecs' grip on fourth place in the standings, upping their MWC mark to 4-2.

Wyoming (7-14, 1-5 MWC) jumpd out to a 2-1 game advantage in the match behind the hitting of Melody Friehauf who led everyone with 18 kills and a .448 hitting percentage.

A tight fourth game saw the Aztecs prevail 15-12, then win game five 15-8 to claim the victory. Four SDSU players finished the night in double figures in kills led by freshman Aspen McPartland with 15. She also had 14 digs to record her third double double of the season as did teammate Monet Solberg (11 kills, 10 digs). Nicole Akporiaye (11) and Amy Hallquist(10) also hit double figures in kills for San Diego State.

The Aztec victory was the fourth straight for coach Mark Warner's crew, matching the team's longest win streak of the season. It also marks the first time SDSU has won four consecutive league contests since the 1997 season as San Diego State matched ts MWC win total of last season when it finished 4-10 in league play.

SDSU continues conference action on the road on Saturday, Oct. 14, when it faces league leader Colorado State in Fort Collins at 3:00 p.m. (MDT). The Rams (20-1, 6-0 MWC) are ranked fourth in the nation and currently boast a 39-game home unbeaten streak.

The Aztecs return home on Monday (Oct. 16) to face William & Mary in Peterson Gym at 5:00 p.m.
