PORTLAND - The San Diego State women's volleyball team broke into the win column Friday afternoon with a 3-1 victory over Saint Mary's in the first round of the Portland State-Nike Conference Challenge in Portland, Ore.

The Aztecs' 15-4, 15-6, 11-15, 16-14 win was led by Amy Hallquist, who had 14 kills and a .355 attack percentage. Nicole Akporiaye added 12 kills and Zlatina Anguelova also reached double figures with 10 kills.

SDSU finished with a team attack percentage of .304, compared to .156 for Saint Mary's.

San Diego State improved to 1-4 on the season with all four losses coming at the hands of ranked opponents. Saint Mary's fell to 1-3.
