Women's Volleyball Defeats Air Force In Three Games

San Diego - The San Diego State Aztec women's volleyball team turned in an impressive offensive performance for the second night in a row as they downed visiting Air Force in three games Saturday evening in Peterson Gym.

SDSU won by game scores of 15-6, 15-10, 15-7 to improve its season record to 8-9 overall and 2-2 in Mountain West Conference play. The Falcons fell to 6-8, losing their third straight league match to fall to 0-3 in the MWC.

The Aztecs used a balanced attack with four players recording double figures in kills led by senior Amy Hallquist. Finishing with 10 kills apiece for SDSU were Nicole Akporiaye, Erin Grady and Monet Solberg.

Hallquist's .500 hitting percentage led the Aztecs for the second straight match after she hit a season-high .737 vs. New Mexico Friday night. As a team, San Diego state hit .345 for the match compared to .120 for the Falcons who were led by Delavane Diaz with 10 kills and Jamie Rempel's .316 hitting percentage.

SDSU senior Erin Grady contributed eight blocks to raise her season average to 1.78 blocks per game, a figure that ranks among the top 10 in the nation. On the night, SDSU showed its strength at the net with 17 total team blocks compared to seven by Air Force.

Up next for San Diego State is a trip to Las Vegas to face conference foe UNLV on Saturday, Oct. 7, at 4:00 p.m.
