SAN DIEGO - Two late goals lifted Louisville to a 2-0 win over San Diego State Friday night in the opening round of the Coors Invitational being played at UNLV this weeekend. With the victory, the Cardinals improved to 7-3 on the season as the Aztecs fell to 4-6.
The game was scoreless until the 84th minute when Louisville's Justin Prather found the net to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead. Three minutes later, George Zabaneh sealed the win, taking a cross from Shawn Faria and firing home.
San Diego State, missing two starters (forward Ronnie Silva and defender Jon Povey) who were serving one-game red card suspensions, was unable to get on track offensively as it was outshot by Louisville 21-7 for the match. Aztec goalkeeper Brian Barnes was called upon to make eight saves on the night while the Cardinals' Jeremy Morales had four.
SDSU continues action at the UNLV Coors Invitational on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 1) when it meets Drury at 2:00 p.m. The Aztecs return home on Friday, October 6th, to open their Mountain Pacific Sports Federation season against Cal State Fullerton at 4:00 p.m. at the SDSU Sports Deck.
