Women's Volleyball Earns Conference Win Over New Mexico

San Diego - The San Diego State Aztec women's volleyball team notched its first Mountain West Conference victory of the season, defeating the visiting New Mexico Lobos in three games by scores of 15-8, 15-5, 15-10. The Aztec win halted the Lobos' four-match unbeaten streak during which UNM had not lost a game.

The win improved SDSU's season record to 7-8 overall and 1-2 in league play. New Mexico, meanwhile, fell to 6-7 (2-1 MWC).

The Aztecs were led by their senior trio of Monet Solberg, Amy Hallquist and Erin Grady. Solberg led the team with 16 kills and eight digs, and turned in an impressive .464 hitting percentage for the match. Hallquist contributed 14 kills without an error and hit a team season-high .737 over the course of the three games. Grady, who is ranked 10th in the nation in blocks, improved her season average with a total of 12 (3 solo, 9 assists).

Freshman Aspen McPartland also hit double figures in kills with 11 as the Aztecs turned in a season team-best .454 hitting percentage for the match.

For New Mexico, Micaela Conley and Jessie Goffard led the way with 14 kills apiece. However, UNM was no match for the Aztecs at the net, managing only two blocks on the night compared to SDSU's team total of 13.5.

San Diego State returns to Peterson Gym on Saturday evening (Sept. 30) to face conference foe Air Force at 7:00 p.m.
