Women's Volleyball Falls To 20th-Ranked Loyola Marymount

SAN DIEGO - A spirited San Diego State women's Volleyball team was unable to overcome the 20th-ranked team in the nation as San Diego State fell to Loyola Marymount 3-0 in Peterson Gym Tuesday evening.

The loss was the third in a row for the Aztecs who dropped to 6-9 on the year. The Lions, meanwhile, improved their record to 10-3.

After dropping the first game by a score of 15-10, SDSU jumped out to a 6-1 advantage in game two. However, the Aztecs were unable to sustain their momentum and again fell by a score of 15-10. In the third game, Loyola Marymount jumped out to a 14-6 lead, only to see San Diego State rally to knot the score at 14-14 before succumbing to the taller, stronger Lions 16-14.

SDSU was led by senior Monet Solberg who had a team-high 12 kills plus nine digs and was followed closely by Sophomore Nicole Akporiaye with 11 kills and 1.5 blocks. Akporiaye had one of her stronger matches of the year, hitting .526 over the course of the three games.

LMU was led by 6-6 All-American hitter Sarah McFarland who had 29 kills and a hitting percentage of .532 on the night.

The Aztecs resume Mountain West Conference action this weekend when they host New Mexico on Friday (Sept. 29) and Air Force on Saturday (Sept. 30) with both matches starting at 7:00 p.m. in Peterson Gym.
