Women's Volleyball Loses At No. 8 Brigham Young

PROVO, Utah - The San Diego State women's volleyball team could not overcome a strong offensive performance by eighth-ranked Brigham Young, falling to the Cougars in three games (15-11, 15-7, 15-4) in Provo, Utah, Saturday evening.

With the loss, the Aztecs fell to 6-8 overall and 0-2 in Mountain West Conference play. BYU upped its season tally to 9-3 and improved to 2-0 in league.

San Diego State was led by senior Monet Solberg who had eight kills and eight digs. Freshman Megan Schauermann had perhaps her best outing as an Aztec with three kills and a .375 hitting percentage over the two games in which she played.

On the other side of the net, the Cougars got 12 kills from Nina Puikkonen who hit .375 on the night. Her teammate, Jackie Bundy, had a team-high .429 percentage as BYU finished the match with a team hitting percentage of .252 compared to SDSU's .029.

Up next for San Diego State is a non-conference match against 20th-ranked Loyola Marymount on Tuesday (Sept. 26) at 6:00 p.m. in Peterson Gym. SDSU yen opens the home portion of its 2000 Mountain West Conference schedule against New Mexico next Friday, Sept. 29, at 7:00 p.m. in Peterson Gym.
