San Diego - San Diego State completed its two-game road trip to the midwest with a 5-2 loss at the hands of the Cincinnati Bearcats on Sunday afternoon in Ohio.
The loss was the Aztecs' third in a row and dropped their record to 2-4 on the season. It marks the first three-game losing streak for SDSU since the 1996 campaign when it lost four in a row for the only time in the program's history. Cincinnati meanwhile, evened its 2000 record at 3-3.
The game was also just the Aztecs' second loss since 1998 when it has scored at least two goals in a game. Entering the contest, SDSU was 32-1 in that situation
Bearcat forward Tianna Oliver was a thorn in the Aztecs' side all afternoon, recording a hat trick as Cincinnati opened up a 4-0 lead by the 54th minute.
Junior midfielder Fay deLeon got the Aztecs on the board in the 71st minute, converting a penalty kick after Nicole Findaly was tackled in the box by Bearcat goalkeeper Christy Hoffman.
After Jen Meiners restored Cincy's four-goal lead in the 82nd minute before deLeon struck again with under four minutes remaining. She lofted a shot from 20 yards that went over goalie Shannon Brooks' head into the net.
SDSU was outshot by Cincinnati 13-9 with 12 of the Bearcats' shots on goal. Starting Aztec goalie Linnea Quinones made three saves while freshman Erin Haentjens, who came on at halftime, had five stops.
Up next for the Aztecs is next weekend's tournament in Portland where they will face the host Pilots on Saturday (Sept. 16) and Washington on Saturday (Sept. 17).
