Men's Soccer Loses to Fifth-ranked Portland

PORTLAND - The San Diego State men's soccer team (1-3-0) lost 2-1 Sunday to fifth-ranked Portland in the final day of the adidas Portland Soccer Tournament on the University of Portland campus.

The lone Aztec goal came in the 73rd minute courtesy of senior midfielder/forward Milton Economy, junior midfielder Enrique Tovar was credited with the assist.

Portland (3-0-1) jumped out to an early lead at the 22:08 mark when freshman forward Cody Hagler found the back of the net. The Pilots second goal of the afternoon came less than 12 minutes into the second half when freshman forward Nate Jaqua headed a long pass from junior defender Brandon McNeil.

SDSU junior goalkeeper Tim Edwards played all 90 minutes tallying seven saves in the losing effort. Portland sophomore goalkeeper Curtis Spiteri also played all 90 minutes carding four saves and the win.

SDSU was outshot 23-13, Portland also controlled the shots on goal category taking nine to the Aztecs' five.

The Aztecs look to get back on track with a pair of home matches, facing Saint Mary's on Friday at 4 p.m. and Cal Baptist Monday at 4 p.m. All home matches are played at the SDSU Sports Deck.
