SAN DIEGO - Fay deLeon's goal with seven minutes remaining left San Diego State to a 2-1 win over Navy in first-day action at the Cal Invitational Soccer tournament in Berkeley on Friday. The goal came on an expertly place free kick from 25 yards.
With the win, the Aztecs improved to 2-1 while Navy dropped to 1-2 on the season.
SDSU opened the scoring quickly when Nicole Findaly took a through ball and beat the Navy keeper with only 2:12 gone in the game. It was Findlay's third goal of the season.
However, Navy's Amelia Sheveland answered with a goal of her own in the 18th minute to knot the score at one. The game appeared headed for overtime before deLeon's heroics.
The Aztecs had 12 shots compared to seven for Navy. San Diego State's Linnea Quinones and Erin Haentjens each played a half with the latter recording a pair of saves.
SDSU continues action in Berkeley on Sunday when they face James Madison at 2:00 p.m. The Dukes were stunned by host California, 12-0, in the tournament's other game on Saturday.
