For the second consecutive day, the San Diego State men's golf team shot a score of 297 at the 2000 NCAA Western Regional. The Aztecs total score of 588 places them in 20th at 12 strokes over. SDSU is 10 strokes back from the last qualifying spot for the NCAA Nationals. Both Cal and Idaho have a hold to that position at two-under for the tournament, at the par-72 Riverbend Golf Course in Madera, Calif.
Eleventh-ranked Brigham Young remains as the leader, firing a four-under 281 to go 19-under for the event. The Cougars enter the final round with a one-stroke advantage over Arizona. The Wildcats carded a 278 for the day's lowest team score.
Yorba Linda native, Ryan Donovan, fired the Aztecs' lowest score of the round. He parred on the day to go four-over for the tournament and move into a tie for 74th-place. Freshman Lars Johansson shot a 76 and is three-over par. Scott Piercy shot one better from yesterday with a 74 and stands at five-over. Seniors Magnus Carlsson and Larry Correa shot a 75 and 81, respectively.
