Prestegard Leads Water Polo in Day One of MPSF Championships

April 7, 2000

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Diego State women's water polo team defeated Hawai`i, 7-4, and lost to top-ranked UCLA, 14-9, in day one of the MPSF Championships in San Jose, Calif.

In the Hawai`i game, freshman Amber Prestegard tallied four goals to lead SDSU to its second victory over the Wahine this season. Goalkeeper Curran Teigen racked up sixteen saves to secure the win.

Versus UCLA, Prestegard was again on fire, but the Bruin offense was too much for SDSU. Prestegard found the back of the net four times and was helped offensively by Larisa Baltgalvis with three goals and Kelly Falcone and Heidi Matsumoto with one goal apiece.

"We played well today," said head coach Carin Crawford. "Megan Dunbar played exceptional defense and Curran Teigen was like a wall in front of the goal. The win over Hawai`i was important for us."

The Aztecs play again on Saturday when they face Stanford at 10:45 a.m. and Pacific at 3:05 p.m.
