BERKELEY, Calif. - The San Diego State women's track and field team took on the best the states of California and Nevada had to offer over the weekend and finished in sixth place with a combined 59 points at the two-day Cal/Nevada State Track and Field Championships Sunday.
Despite not having any throwers, it was another solid finish for the Aztecs, who claimed wins in three events. UCLA captured the overall team title with 114 points followed by California in second with 86 and Nevada in third with 84. Mountain West Conference rival UNLV placed fourth with a total of 80 points.
Sophomore Kylie Edwards led the Aztecs' effort, riding a pair of personal records in both the 800 and 1500 meters to victory. Edwards opened the day with a time of 2:09.35 in the 800 meters, the fourth fastest time ever run in that event by an Aztec. She then sewed up victory number two in the 1500, finishing with a clocking of 4:27.00, also the fourth fastest time in SDSU history.
Senior Felicia Stone posted SDSU's other win, taking the 100-meter hurdles in a personal record 13.39. It was her third victory in the 100-meter hurdles this season and the fifth best all-time 100-meter hurdle time in Aztec history.
Other notable performances were tuned in by junior Promise Mose, freshman Jini Hogg and freshman Leslie Miller. Mose ran the third fastest time by an Aztec ever in the 400 meters and just missed an NCAA provisional qualifying mark, finishing second with personal best time of 53.88. Hogg took fifth in the 400 meters while Miller placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles.
The SDSU women's track and field team returns to action on Saturday, May 7 when the Aztec head to UC Irvine for the Steve Scott Invitational.
